This article outlines how to view charge information related to a specific case.


Each case has a Charges tab that displays all billed and unbilled charges that have been added to the case. To navigate to this screen:

  1. Open a case in Equinox
  2. Click on the Charges tab
     


The number displayed in brackets on the Charges tab indicates the number of unbilled charges for the case (e.g. charges that have not been invoiced yet).


On this screen, users can

  • Add charges
  • View the details of existing charges
  • See a summary of all charges that have been added to the case
  • Generate invoices and bill charges

 

By default, charges are ordered by date. You can click on the headers of other columns that are highlighted in blue text to order the charges by that column.


The following charge information is displayed:


Column

Description

Date

This is usually the date that the charge has been added to the case. However, the date can be edited if needed.

Please see ‘Add a Charge’ and ‘Edit/Update a Charge’ for more information.

Amount

This displays the total of the charge. The amount is always displayed in your system’s default currency. If you have added the charge in a different currency this amount is listed in grey below.

Discount*This is an optional column that displays any charge discounts that have been applied.
Please contact our Support team to add this column.

Adjustment

If a charge amount has been amended when generating the invoice, the adjusted amount will be displayed here.

Note: Adjustments are only displayed on ‘Billed’ charges.

Time

This column displays the time recorded for any Time related charges. The time is displayed in decimal hours.

Description

This shows information about what the charge is for. E.g. Patent Service Charge.

Category

This shows the type of charge. (Time/Fixed/Cost). For more information on charge categories, please see the section on Charge Details Fields.

Sub-category

This adds some additional information about the type of charge. The charge sub-category list can be customised – please contact our Support team for more information on this.

Billed

This column indicates if the charge has been invoiced or not.

Status*

If the ‘Charge Approvals’ module is enabled this column will be visible to indicate whether the charge has been approved for billing.

Inv#

This displays the invoice number if the charge has been billed. The invoice number is also a link to view the details of the invoice.

Charge User/Owner

This indicates who has added the charge to the case or who has completed the work for the charge.
