This option allows families of related cases to be linked together under an ‘Extended Family’ e.g for US filings.


This functionality is required to produce citations and IDS forms from Equinox.


To Create an Extended Family

  1. Open a case and go to the Family tab
  2. Click 'Create Extended Family' in the left hand menu
  3. Type the name of the extended family in the ‘Name’ field at the top of the page. 
  4. Click ‘Create’


The case you are viewing will automatically be included in the extended family you have created. 


Any families that are part of the extended family group will be listed in the table at the top of the page, including the Family Name, Family Type, Abstract and Case Count.


The table at the bottom of the page will list all other families within your system.


To Link Additional Families to the Extended Family


1. Select the families to include EITHER

> Tick the box at the top of the list of family names to select all.

> Tick the box on the left next to the name of any families to add.


2. Use the fields at the top of each column to find particular families. 

> Type the word or characters you are searching for click ‘Filter’ in Equinox or ‘Enter’ on your keyboard. 

> The results are displayed. 

> To remove the filter, click ‘Clear Filter’ or delete the characters and click ‘Enter’.


3. Click the ‘Add to Extended Family’ button. The selected families will be moved to the list at the top of the page of families within the extended group.



To Remove a Family From the Extended Group

  1. Click the red ‘remove’ button next to the family name.
  2. The family will be removed immediately and be listed in the table at the bottom of the screen.




Navigate To An Extended Family

  1. Go to the Family tab of a case.
  2. Click the Extended Family button in the top left.
