Storing official dates & numbers

Official dates like the filing, publication and grant date of an application are stored in special fields called ‘History dates’. You can store the date, country code where the office resides, and number within each field.

For example, a ‘First Filing’ application filed at the UKIPO might have a ‘Filing’ history date field that looks a bit like this:

Each history date field has a unique numerical identifier called a ‘History ID’ or ‘HID’. These are useful to know about, as they appear in things like template merge codes that allow you to pull this data into emails and letters. Additional history dates can be added into the system depending on your requirements, but our base set is usually enough.

Each history date should be used to store dates and numbers in a specific way, to ensure consistency across your system. This is especially important when you’re setting up correspondence templates to pull in dates and numbers in specific scenarios.
