When differences are found between your case details and those held by the PTO, you can:

  • Resolve these differences manually 
  • Ignore individual differences
  • Resolve these differences automatically 

Manually resolving differences

To manually resolve the differences between the entry in your Equinox system and the PTO case entry:

  1. Click the Resolve button

  1. This takes you to the case PTO Differences screen. You can view all outstanding differences in the Outstanding Differences box. This gives you an overview of how many outstanding differences there are on this case.

  1. Equinox will display the differences between the case in your system and the case in the PTO.

    For some differences, including Applicants and Goods and Classes, Equinox will display a dropdown menu.

    For Applicants and Inventors, Equinox runs a search against your address book. 
    If a matching contact is found based on the name, it will display the suggested match with the option to Link Existing, which will add your existing contact to the case.
    If an exact match isn't found but the contact does exist in your address book already, you can use the Link with Equinox other option to search and find the corresponding contact in your address book.
    If the contact doesn't already exist on your system, the Create new applicant/inventor option will create the entry in your address book and link it to the case. Please note only the name of the contact will be set when it is created.
    If there's an applicant on Equinox but not on the PTO, you'll have the option to Remove applicant/inventor.
    For Goods and Classes, Equinox will give you the option to Add to Equinox.

  1. Click the green Update button to resolve the differences. Equinox will display a message saying Equinox updated in the right-hand column to confirm that the discrepancy has been corrected.

Note: If you've chosen the wrong option for a field you've updated, you can click the 'Mark as outstanding' button to mark the difference as unresolved.

Ignore a difference from the PTO entry

To ignore a difference from the PTO entry, click the Ignore button on the PTO Differences page.

Equinox will display a message saying Resolved Difference to confirm that the difference has been ignored. The difference will then show in the Resolved Differences section.

Automatically resolving differences

Equinox also provides the ability for identified differences to be automatically updated in your system, rather than manually updating each suggested difference. This can be handled on a field by field basis. For more information, see the article on setting up the PTO integration preferences.
